Simple bill split formula
Use this formula: each person pays = (subtotal + tax + tip) / number of people.
If the tip is based on the subtotal, calculate tip first, then add it to tax and subtotal. Some people tip on the post-tax total, but pre-tax tipping is common in the United States.
Example with tax and tip
Suppose the subtotal is $80, tax is $8, and the group chooses a 20% tip. The tip is $16, so the total bill is $104. Split between four people, each person pays $26.
